About this indicator

SourceInternational Monetary Fund
FrequencyAnual
Release Publicación anual, referida al conjunto del ejercicio y sujeta a revisión.
What it isBrazil's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) represents the value of all final goods and services produced in the country over a period. It is the broadest gauge of the size and pace of growth of the economy, and it is published by the IBGE.
How it's calculatedThe IBGE calculates it by three approaches that must coincide: by demand (private consumption, government spending, investment and the external balance of exports minus imports), by supply (the value added of all sectors plus taxes on products) and by income. Changes against the previous quarter and the same quarter a year earlier are released.
Market implicationsIt is the primary benchmark for assessing the health and cycle of the Brazilian economy. Its path shapes economic policy, job creation, tax revenue and market expectations; stronger-than-expected growth tends to support the real and Brazilian assets.
LimitationsIt is released several weeks after the period it refers to and the first estimates are revised in later releases, so the preliminary figure is not final.
