What it is
Indicator used to provide basic information about the size and structure of the workforce (employment, unemployment and inactivity) of the country's population, as well as the sociodemographic characteristics of the Colombian population. Also calculates the main indicators of the labor market and its variation over time.
How it's calculated
The unemployment rate is the percentage ratio between the number of people who are looking for work (DS) and the number of persons in the labor force (PEA). two types of data in terms of coverage are calculated. On the one hand national level data have, on the other hand, urban areas (13 metropolitan areas).
Market implications
The evolution of the unemployment rate is a good indicator of the dynamism of the economy, although it is important to note that sometimes the unemployment rate increases for reasons not demand reduction but by a technological improvement.
Limitations
Data subject to revision.
