About this indicator

Source
Statistics Denmark
Frequency
Quarterly
Release
Roughly one to two months after the reference quarter closes (advance estimate and final figure).
What it is
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) measures the total value of all goods and services produced in Denmark over a period and is the broadest gauge of the size and pace of growth of the Danish economy. It is compiled and published by Statistics Denmark (Danmarks Statistik).
How it's calculated
Estimated via the demand, output and income approaches, which must reconcile. Statistics Denmark publishes a seasonally adjusted quarterly series, reporting the quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) and year-on-year (YoY) changes in chained volume terms.
Market implications
It is the key benchmark for gauging the Danish business cycle. Because Denmark pegs the krone (DKK) to the euro through ERM II, growth shapes expectations more than the rate outlook, which tracks the ECB closely. A strong print bolsters confidence in Danish assets.
Limitations
It is released several weeks after the reference period and the flash estimate is revised later, so the first figure is not final. As a small, very open economy, a handful of large firms (pharmaceuticals, shipping) can distort a given quarter.
