What it is	It is the preliminary CPI for the German state of Baden-Württemberg, published by its regional statistics office. It comes out a few hours before the national German CPI for the same month and helps anticipate it, since the state carries a sizeable weight in the national basket.
How it's calculated	It is compiled from the prices of a representative basket of goods and services collected within the state, using the same methodology as the national German CPI but limited to the regional level. Year-on-year and month-on-month changes are tracked.
Market implications	It acts as a lead for the national German CPI, released the same day a few hours later: if several large states come in line with expectations, the surprise from the national figure is reduced. As Germany sets the tone for euro-area inflation, it indirectly shapes ECB expectations.
Limitations	It covers only the state and not the whole of Germany, so it misses regional price differences; the figure is preliminary (vorläufig) and may be revised in the final release a few days later.
