About this indicator

SourceEstadistica Islandia
FrequencyTrimestral
Release Aproximadamente entre uno y dos meses después del cierre del trimestre de referencia (avance y dato definitivo).
What it isGross Domestic Product measures the value of all goods and services produced in Iceland over a given period. Compiled by Statistics Iceland (Hagstofa Íslands), it is the broadest gauge of the size and pace of growth of the Icelandic economy.
How it's calculatedStatistics Iceland estimates GDP in volume terms (constant prices), aggregating the value added of all sectors from the expenditure and output sides. It is published as a quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year change.
Market implicationsIt is the main benchmark for the Icelandic cycle and a key input for the Central Bank of Iceland in setting rates. In an economy heavily exposed to tourism, fishing and aluminium, upside or downside surprises shift rate expectations and the króna.
LimitationsIt is released with a lag and the first estimates are later revised, so they are not final. As a very small economy, the figures are volatile and highly sensitive to one-off factors such as the tourist season or large investment projects.
