Release
First working day of the month, 11:00 WIB (06:00 CEST / 04:00 UTC), within the Berita Resmi Statistik.
What it is
Indonesia's Consumer Price Index measures the change in prices of the household consumption basket. Compiled by the statistics agency BPS, it is the benchmark for Bank Indonesia's inflation target, set in a band around 2.5%.
How it's calculated
Compiled by BPS from a price survey across around 150 cities and towns; the monthly and year-on-year changes in the headline index are published.
Market implications
It shapes Bank Indonesia's decisions and the pressure on the rupiah: a print above expectations reinforces expectations of tighter policy and tends to support the currency.
Limitations
The figures are provisional and subject to revision. The CPI was rebased in 2022 and widened its sample of towns, breaking comparability with earlier series.
