What it isMain source of information on the labor market in Japan. It is an indicator of the labor market, which represents the percentage of unemployed people over the total working population. (Unemployed * 100 / pop. Active). So the result is comparable with the rest of the unemployment rates in other countries. It is based on the Labour Force Survey, conducted since 1964.
How it's calculateda survey of about 100,000 people living in any part of the country, the last day of each month, except in December, which is usually performed on 26 of the same is done. The following data are available: unemployment rate, employment rate, percentage of people who are self-employed, those working for others, participation rate ((active population / population over 15 years) * 100) etc .. .
Market implicationsThe evolution of the unemployment rate allows to know the degree of dynamism of the economy, ie, the ability to create jobs. Also informs about the structure of the labor market, it ie the distribution by sex, type of contract ... etc.
LimitationsIt is important to distinguish when the unemployment rate increases by decreasing demand or by technological improvements that create the same output with fewer employees.
