Release
About one month after the reference period.
What it is
Retail sales measure the volume of goods sold by Ukraine's retail outlets. They are one of the most important gauges of household consumption.
How it's calculated
The statistics service (Ukrstat) collects retailers' turnover and builds a volume index against a base year. It is released as a year-on-year change, in a context where coverage is affected by the war.
Market implications
It gives an early read on Ukrainian private consumption and the resilience of domestic demand. A sustained fall signals economic weakness; a recovery points to activity returning to normal.
Limitations
It is a volatile, revision-prone indicator. The war limits territorial coverage (occupied or front-line areas are excluded) and complicates comparisons with the pre-war period.
