What it is
Productivity is an indicator of the country's ability to continue growing. Specifically measures the degree of efficiency to convert inputs into outputs. Measures the output per unit of resource used (labor or capital). On the other hand, an increase in unit labor costs may be indicative of an increase in inflation in the future, if they move to final prices for consumers.
How it's calculated
Is calculated by the Labor Department, taking into account the amount of goods and services produced (outputs) depending on the amount of inputs that are necessary for it. All variations are based Annualized quarterly rate.
Market implications
In principle, an increase in productivity can increase production and reduce costs (up to certain limits imposed by the demand side). It is a highly cyclical indicator since it depends partly on the number of employees and capital, which are flexible factors.
Limitations
The asymmetry of Productivity in high-tech enterprises and low. One must be careful when comparing several countries, since the costs have a decisive influence. A country may be less productive in principle, but the cause is higher costs, that force you to produce less. All variations are based Annualized quarterly rate so are subject to further adjustments.
